Morphing

The little one inside shows me his full repertoire: morphing effortlessly from the wild fury of the great beast, to the shivering boy, curled up in fear; and then deeper: to the worthless loser, the freak, the devil himself . . . And as I watch the characters take shape, I do not stand apart like some transcendent witness, no, I feel intimately the wildness, the red hot energy of it, the nausea of shame, the dark edge of hatred—it IS what I AM too! I bow to the one that wants to eradicate all pain forever, to the one that wants the secret formula to freedom, and appreciate the wondrous truth: that when the struggle to get ‘there’ lets go, ‘here’ is all I ever wanted.
